Hospital Bag Essentials: Everything You’ll Be Glad You Brought
The moment you've been waiting for is almost here! Packing your hospital bag can feel like a daunting task, especially as a first-time mom, but it doesn’t have to be. With my recent experience as a new mom, I learned exactly what was useful, what I didn’t touch, and what I wished I had packed. Whether you're days away or just starting to prepare, this guide will help you feel confident and ready when it's time to meet your little one. If you are anything like me, you are a procrastinator when it comes to packing! I waited until week 35 when I decided, I better get to packing my bags for baby and myself! So, I have created a packing list of all the must have items that we used in the hospital, the items we didn't use, and the items we wish we would have brought... For myself personally, I ended up having a c-section so these are the items that helped me recover the most: 1. Frida Belly Band - a true lifesaver postpartum recovery in the hospital 2. Nightgowns with buttons - easier for breastfeeding & pumping, I recommend 3-4 3. Slippers - easier to slip on the other shoes 4. Frida Peri Bottle - even after a c-section you will still bleed 5. Blanket - bring your coziest blanket 6. Speaker - my Husband and I listened to a lot of music during our stay 7. Shower Shoes - flip flops will do just fine 8. Fan - grab your portable fan and attach that to the bed - the postpartum sweats are real 9. Going Home Outfit - make sure it's cozy and not too tight, you will leave in a diaper 10. Mini Toiletries - that first & second shower will feel amazing The hospital supplies a LOT for you. Don't bring pads, disposable underwear, nipple cream or anything like that. They will have an abundant supply of that for you. They will also provide you with a gown, so don't worry about purchasing one of those either!
Now let's get into the details of what to bring for your little one:
1. My Brest Friend Pillow - or any nursing pillow (if you plan to breastfeed)
2. All newborn outfits - leave the 0-3 at home, the newborns will fit
3. Blanket - a cozy soft blanket for them as well as the hospital is so cold
4. Pacifiers - my daughter didn't like the hospital one, so I am glad we brought options
5. Socks - once again, so cold in the hospital
6. Onesies - newborn for under their sleepers, bring 2-3
7. Sleepers - dress them cozy - bring 2-3
8. Burp Clothes - the muslin ones are our personal favorite
9. Announcement Outfit - we got ours from Little B's Nursery
10. Velcro Swaddle - amazon has some amazing ones
11. Hats/Bows/Accessories - for those cute photos
12. Sound Machine - so they don't have to listen to all the beeping noises
Here are some other items to make sure you pack:
- Announcement Sign - for their photos
- Polaroid Camera & Film - these make for great photos in the baby book
- Folder - you will receive a ton of paperwork and documents that are important
- Phone Chargers - some people prefer the long cords for easier charging
- Snacks - bring your favorite snacks for those late night munchies
Everything else like diapers, wipes, lotion, pumps, nipple shields, and creams will be supplied by your hospital. You will also come home with a ton of stuff but they have disposable bags for you as well. These are just some items that we are so glad we had. I have linked each of the items we personally brought on my Amazon Storefront. I hope this helps you plan for your little one.
